City of Johannesburg: Policy and Projects Internships (Environmental Graduates)

 

The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), Environmental and Infrastructure Service Department is offering Internship opportunities to suitably qualified and unemployed graduates. The Interships will run for a a period NOT exceeding eighteen (18) months.

 

Position Title: Policy and Projects Internship

Department: Environmental and Infrastructure Service

Reference / Circular: Student Internship Circular 001/2025

Duration: 18 Months contract

Stipend: R9 531,54 pm

Location: Traduna House, 118 Jorissen Street, Braamfontein

 

Primary Function: Manage the process of development and implementation of waste management policies, strategies and plans for sustainable waste management services across the City to achieve the City’s strategic objectives of integrated waste management. Manage the planning and implementation of sustainable waste projects.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Waste management planning to ensure legislative compliance and that waste is managed in an environmentally sustainable manner;
  • Stakeholder management to ensure community buy-in and participation in the City’s waste management initiatives;
  • Coordinate and provide input into the Management of Business Planning, Reporting on Project progress and Financial Management activities of the Business Unit;
  • Risk management is used to ensure monitoring, reporting on risk, and providing mitigation measures within the section;
  • Project management

 

Requirements:

Degree  (NQF level 7) in:

  • Environmental Health,
  • Environmental Management,
  • Environmental Science
  • or closely related disciplines

Skills and Competencies:

  • ICT literacy, including MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills;
  • Project Management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of environmental issues and relevant legislation;
  • Proven record in the field of environmental capacity building and running of waste policies and projects;
  • Understanding environmental policies and project principles and approaches.
