Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) is South Africa’s state-owned air navigation service provider responsible for managing air traffic and ensuring the safe, orderly, and efficient movement of aircraft within the country’s airspace. ATNS delivers air traffic control, navigation, surveillance, communication, and aeronautical information services, supporting both domestic and international aviation operations while maintaining high safety and regulatory standards.

About the Trainee Programme 2026

Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) is offering 117 bursary opportunities to interested candidates to join the Air Traffic Services bursar programme. The programme provides each bursar with an opportunity to conduct their studies at the Aviation Training Academy in Bonaero Park, Gauteng.

The placement of successful trainees will be in line with the operational requirements of the organisation. Succesfull candidates will undergo extensive training and exposure to various aspects of air traffic management over a specified period.

Air Traffic Services Streams

The various Air Traffic Services bursar streams are listed as follows:

• Air Traffic Services Officer (ATSO)
• Aeronautical Information Management Officer (AIMO)
• Target Generating Officer (TGO)
• Airport Management Centre (AMC) Liaison Officer
• Simulator Support Officer (SSO)

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12/Matric certificate with a pass in the following subjects:

1. Pure Mathematics (Level 4 / HG – D or SG C or above)
2. English (Level 4 / HG – D or SG C or above)

• South African citizen with a valid Identity Document
• Medically fit and willing to undergo our medical assessment for the ATSO stream
• Attach Grade 12 results to your application
• Be willing to relocate anywhere in the country
• Unemployed South African Youth
